“In him the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord; in whom you also are built together spiritually into a dwelling place for God.”   Ephesians 2:21-22 How to Join St. Peter's Joining St. Peter’s means becoming a member of our congregation. We believe that
belonging to the church is the best way to be faithful to our baptism.
Baptism is membership in the body of Christ, but belonging is about becoming a member of St. Peter’s as your home
base for your Christian ministry in the world. The local church is the household of God and we are its members. At St. Peter’s, we worship together regularly, minister to each other in times of joy, enjoy fellowship together, study and grow more deeply in our faith in God and Jesus Christ, and we reach out to others. That’s what it means to belong. We also give every household a Bible, since it is the source and grounding of our life together in Christ. Membership at St. Peter’s means that you do three things that indicates you belong to this church. 1.You worship regularly and you pray for St. Peter’s and its mission, leadership, and members. 2. You make an annual pledge of your time, talent, and treasure. You do this by participating in the life of the church beyond Sunday worship, according to the gifts that God has given you, and by filling out a pledge card of your intention to support the church financially. 3. You are informed about parish life and aware of our mission and vision, you communicate both your praise and complaints to the appropriate persons, and you let the church know when you have needs for prayer, pastoral care, or information. Membership Teaching is offered occasionally throughout the year, and it is followed on a Sunday by an official welcome to new members. All new households of St. Peter’s are given a Bible on Welcoming Sundays. If you would like to become a member, we invite you to come to a Membership Teaching when it is offered on a Sunday, to fill out a Membership Form and pledge card, located on the last page of this book, and to let the church office know that you would like to be welcomed as a member at the next Welcoming Sunday If you are not baptized, and you want to become a member of St. Peter’s, you will want to seek the sacrament of Holy Baptism, as you become a part of our life together. Those seeking baptism should contact the priest to make plans for preparation and the sacrament of baptism. We encourage all people, baptized or not, to worship with us; the sacrament of Communion is appropriately received by all baptized persons. A decision to belong to a local church takes time. We hope that you will worship, learn, study, fellowship, and celebrate with us as you consider your ministry and role at St. Peter’s. When you would like to make a commitment, please use the Stewardship Form located in the church and once complete, return to the church office. Your family information will be entered; the office and Treasurer will record your pledge amount; and the time and talent interests will be shared with committee heads. We are excited to have you as a St. Peter’s family member. St. Peter's of the Valley
